Hattie and Bertie’s marvellous marquee wedding

Hi chums,

Hester’s beautiful photos of Hattie and Bertie’s April wedding in Chiddingfold landed in my inbox last week and I have finally sat down to write about their wedding morning. I know Hattie from school, we went to sixth form together, but we sadly lost touch during our university years. Hattie is good family friends with the Shipways – I did both Jules’ and Emma’s wedding make-up – and she also knows Lucy, whose bridal make-up I did in 2015. After all these recommendations, Hattie got in touch last year and I’m SO pleased that she did. It was so lovely to see her after all these years and I was honoured to be a part of her wedding day. Incidentally, Hester also photographed Jules’ and Emma’s weddings, as well as Hattie’s, so that was another lovely reunion! Bonus!

Hattie was married from home at Chiddingfold church, followed by a marquee reception in her family’s garden.

Hattie’s hair

When I saw Hattie for her bridal trial, she knew that she would like to wear her hair up with a plait to add interest to the style. She also knew that she would like to wear wax flower in her hair which was a beautiful way to embellish the updo. We had a couple of run throughs at Hattie’s trial to make sure she was 100% happy with the style; and to ensure we had the right balance of undone, unstructured curls and twists without her hair looking messy. Hattie has beautifully thick, naturally golden, long hair which was an absolute dream to style. I loved her wedding hair do, it looked effortless with a dash of boho chic which complemented her dress perfectly. What a cool bride.

Hattie’s makeup

Hattie doesn’t usually wear much make-up at all, so was (quite understandably) reluctant to wear a lot on her wedding day. I used a very lightweight base on her skin and used cool taupes and browns to enhance her green-hazel eyes. I finished her eye makeup with plenty of mascara and by lightly filling in her brows. We kept her lip soft and subtle with a nude pink which complemented her blusher beautifully. Hattie is a natural beauty and looked absolutely stunning on her wedding day.

Hattie’s bridal party

Hattie had her sister Roseanna as her only adult bridesmaid. I styled her hair with soft curls and put it half up – such a popular bridesmaid style this year. I finished Roseanna’s hair with wax flower to match Hattie’s. Roseanna went for a soft subtle make-up to enhance her features with warm browns to bring out the blue of her eyes. As she had more of a focus on her eyes, I nestled a few individual lashes on her outer corner to open her eyes up. I finished her make-up with a soft peachy pink Bobbi Brown lipstick.

I shall leave you with the rest of Hester’s photos – enjoy!x
