During our recent house renovation, I decided to take the plunge and have my very own studio built in our garden. This has always been a dream of mine, so it was MEGA exciting to see it become a reality.
I wanted to create a calm, relaxing space that I could offer to Brides when they were having their hair and make up trials, as well the perfect environment to get your glam on before a special occasion or event, all whilst still feeling like ‘me’ and somewhere I would want to hang out. I did a lot of research and in the end, decided to have our builder Tomasz build the studio so I could get exactly what I wanted (as opposed to a pre order flat packed design where I would’ve been forced to compromise on certain elements.).
I worked directly with Tomasz to design the studio – thinking about the light and space. Nearly the entire front of the studio is glass so it is absolutely flooded with light. I have my desk and ‘admin’ workplace on one side of the studio and a comfy seating area where I do my consultations on the other side. I then have a neat workspace where all the creative magic happens!
During our renovation, the studio acted as a storage facility, housing our family bathroom (!) and various furniture until we were ready to install it/move back into the house.
Finally at the end of 2017, we moved back into our house (just in time for New Year) and I could start designing the furniture/layout for the studio. I spent a small fortune in Ikea (on a dark and rainy Thursday afternoon in Croydon – Dan was not loving life that night!) and then spent further hours putting together storage/hanging pin boards and pictures.
I had my first client in the studio at the beginning of the year and it has been absolutely amazing, so much better than I could have ever imagined!
